Distribution by blocks found in the last 7 days (source: mempool.space). NiceHash is not a classic pool but a marketplace for computing power: you sell your hashrate there and are paid in Bitcoin. That is why the provider does not appear in this coin's pool distribution. EMCD is not listed in the table above: it counts blocks found, and this pool's Bitcoin blocks are paid out via a collective address of AntPool. Its computing power is included in the AntPool bar.

Payout models explained

ModelMeaning
PPSFixed payment per submitted work - the pool bears the luck risk
PPS+PPS plus a proportional share of block transaction fees
FPPSLike PPS+, with transaction fees fully included
PPLNSPayout based on the last N shares - rewards continuous mining
SOLONo pool splitting: full block reward, but only when you find a block yourself

The fee applies per model - some pools offer several models in parallel (e.g. "PPS+ 4% · PPLNS 2%").

This page shows the major Bitcoin mining pools with their share of the network hashrate - measured by the blocks actually found over the past seven days, updated daily based on data from Cryptohall24. Below: what makes the Bitcoin pool landscape distinctive and what matters when choosing one.

A concentrated pool landscape

Bitcoin has the largest, but also one of the most concentrated, pool landscapes: a handful of large providers find the majority of all blocks. This is convenient for your payouts - large pools pay very evenly - but too much concentration is unfavourable for the network. Anyone who keeps decentralisation in mind alongside fee and payout model makes a deliberate choice instead of automatically picking the largest provider. The live table above makes the current distribution transparent.

‍

Measured in blocks, not in self-reported figures

The shares above are based on the blocks actually found over the past seven days - the most honest measure available, because it can be verified on-chain. For Bitcoin, FPPS is the most common payout model: the pool pays a fixed rate for computing power and also distributes a proportional share of transaction fees. The basics of payout models and selection criteria are covered on the overview page Mining Pools.

‍

Choosing a pool in practice

For miners in Europe, alongside fee and payout model, the proximity of the stratum server matters - low latency reduces the number of rejected shares. Switching pools is possible at any time within minutes: just enter the new stratum address in the miner dashboard, done. Customers who have their devices hosted by Cryptohall24 choose the pool themselves, freely; our team is happy to help with setup on request. What a device earns after the pool fee can be calculated in the Bitcoin Mining Calculator.

FAQ

Do you have questions? You may well find the right answer here.

Which Bitcoin pool is currently the largest?

This changes continuously. The live table above shows the current distribution by blocks found over the past seven days, updated daily based on data from Cryptohall24.

Why is the distribution measured by blocks?

Blocks found are verifiable on-chain and therefore the most honest measure of a pool's actual share - independent of the providers' own claims.

Should I always choose the largest Bitcoin pool?

Not necessarily. Large pools pay out more evenly, but too much concentration weakens the network's decentralisation. A solid pool with a fair fee, a suitable payout model and a nearby server is often the better choice.

Can I freely choose the pool with hosted devices?

Yes. Even with devices hosted by Cryptohall24, you retain full control over the pool and payout address; switching takes only a few minutes.
