MicroBT Whatsminer M63S+: 405-424 TH/s Hydro Miner - Bitcoin mining with integrated heat recovery
The MicroBT Whatsminer M63S+ is a water-cooled Bitcoin ASIC miner with a hashrate of 424 TH/s (SHA-256). With a power consumption of 7,208 watts, the M63S+ achieves an energy efficiency of 17 J/TH. It thus offers a powerful combination of computing power and efficient use of energy.
The MicroBT Whatsminer M63S+ is one of the modern Bitcoin hydro-miners. In the context of our Hydro Project in Finland, however, it is more than just a powerful ASIC: it is an efficient heat producer with an integrated heat trap structure. With a computing power of 424 TH/s (depending on model and batch, the effective hashrate typically fluctuates between 405 and 424 TH/s), the M63S+ forms the technical basis for a mining concept in which waste heat is not lost but is used economically. As part of Hydro Project with Heat Recovery The resulting waste heat is not removed unused, but integrated into existing heating infrastructure in a targeted manner. Mining thus becomes part of an overall energy system — not isolated power consumption.
Hydro-mining as a heat source for the Finnish population
The M63S+ hydro-cooling system works with a water circuit. Unlike air-cooled miners, this system enables targeted and controlled heat removal, which can be integrated into heat infrastructure in a technically clean manner.
The system is designed in such a way that the heat can be integrated into a district heating network and already reliably supplies households with heat and hot water. In the catchment area, we are talking about 10,000 Finnish households that benefit from this.
Hosting-optimized and future-proof: mining and heat recovery
Hydro-mining as a heat supplier only works cleanly if the temperature and heat transfer can be planned. This is exactly where the M63S+ shows its strength: The ASIC chips are suitable for higher process temperatures and in our setup, the hardware is operated or adjusted in such a way that discharge temperatures of 80-85°C are possible. This is the technical basis for not only removing waste heat, but also using it economically.
In our Finland location, the hardware is operated in an environment that is designed for:
- stable energy supply (98%-99.8% uptime)
- Heat recovery
- lower operating costs (electricity price below 6.4 cents/kWh)
